TEN OF CUPS
10 of Cups Reversed
We are SO ready as a nation to redefine what the "American Dream" (many of us refer to) actually looks + feels like. It isn't about how much we own or how much space we have, but rather in how much we are willing to LET GO of in order to fully realize the ABUNDANCE around us. What we've been holding onto for so long is no longer serving us. We are being asked to master the art of SIMPLIFYING. Throughout this whole process, layers of our past selves will be deeply shed, opening us up to a new sense of GRATITUDE + a major REALIGNMENT of our VALUES. As innovative technologies continue to expand, and our awareness of the impact our decisions have on the environment continue to arise to the forefront of human consciousness, we will master a more SIMPLE way of EXISTENCE. This is opening up space for everyone to get the CARE + TREATMENT they deserve. We are SO ready to drop our materialistic desires to OWN things which will ultimately be in a landfill. This card is exciting because it offers a giant wakeup call to our truth that WE ALREADY ARE ENOUGH. Ain't no Black Friday Sale item ever going to fill that hole in your heart! But what will, is taking only what you need, and sharing the rest with others.
In the next 20 years we will begin to see HUGE initiatives around our consumption as a country. We will be charged by pound for our trash, held accountable for our recycling, most PLASTICS will be outlawed, and the use of Internet will eventually take place of all newspapers + printed materials. There will be great RESISTANCE + CONTRACTION, but we will feel lighter + more grateful than ever before. The less we consume as a country, the more openness we will find in our mental + emotional capacity. We will have more time to take care of ourselves and this in turn will deepen our relationship to Earth, community + holistic practices, which in turn will unite us all so that we are of better service to the world.
Death asks, "What does a Sacred Death mean to you?" We all have an idea of what we expect our life to look like. Others, our family and community, also have ideas (sometimes even stronger than our own) of what they expect our lives to look like. We are surrounded by media telling us what we should look like and how we should be thinking and living. If you're a girl, you talk this way. If you're a guy, you dress this way. If you're 30, you do this. If you're 50, you can't do this. And so on... What happens when these expectations don't line up with our hearts calling? We can:
1. Ignore the calling (easy route), or
2. Answer the calling, and experience a sort of DEATH.
Ten of Cups REVERSED.
Ten of Cups depicts a harmonious family with deep emotional fulfillment. When this card shows up reversed, she represents the opposite, a card of deep emotional upset. The picture perfect rainbow scene is now turned upside down and the fairy tale is over. Things that once were (expectations), perhaps never actually existed in the first place (death). A SACRED DEATH is honoring the passing away of an expectation not aligned with your heart's calling.
It's not always easy, in fact it can be very painful to realize what you were holding on to, doesn't actually serve you. Take a moment to check in with your personal and creative expectations. Do you put a lot of pressure on yourself? Now, check in with the expectations others place on you: your family, lovers, co-workers, society. What do you notice about these expectations? Do they feel like motivation and guidance? Or are they bullying and toxic? Can you make room to free yourself from expectations weighing you down?
