KING OF CUPS
Take note of all the times over the last year that you took control of your life with gentle authority. Acknowledge all the moments when you felt intense emotions (like rage, terror, even grief), and could have gone ape-shit and sabotaged you're entire everything, but instead you kept it together like a boss. These are the moments you proved your commitment to this human experience. This last year was a real difficult, but you kept it together. 2016 made you stronger than before, prepping you to keep acting, like the King of Cups, from a place of balanced emotions to serve love + healing to Momma Earth and all her precious children. Let's do this 2017.
If we can really tune into the messages deep within our soul's this time of year, we'll find ourselves acting from a place of compassion, balanced emotions, and gentle authority, much like the King of Cups. Now more than ever is a time for holding space: for yourself, loved ones, nature, and humanity. Twenty-sixteen was, and still is, a turbulent year for many on this planet, and with it, fears and emotions have risen from the surface of our subconscious. As you move around or travel for the holidays, spending time with loved ones and family, you'll most likely be feeling the ocean of emotion swirling all around you. As you take yourself out of your usual routine, all of the busy distractions of your day-to-day life may fall away, giving you an opportunity to face these feelings you may haven't had the time to process. Greet them with gentle fearlessness. Treat them with love and care. Allow yourself to take in all of the pain, confusion, and heartache. You incarnated here during this time because you hold the power, authority, and gifts to transmute fear into love. Use this time to honor the power you possess. Deeply bow to the ancient wisdom of your emotions, and your capacity as a human to continually hold so much space. You're doing great! Keep up the good work! The more you show up for yourself, and allow yourself to fully breathe into your humanness, the more you're able to give back and help usher in the healing needed here on planet Earth. ✨🙏✨ ✨✨✨To meditate on Mercury Retrograde, you can place your Magician card in Reverse
Bernie Sanders showing upright as the King of Cups indicates how important of a LEADER he is for this evolutionary movement. The King of Cups is the most SENSITIVE of kings and rules over his kingdom with LOVING ENERGY. He is the master of emotions + responds very calmly to crisis. He is diplomatic and isn't afraid to ask for help from others. He's very aware of his limitations, unlike the other Kings of the tarot, and takes into account all those around him to see that everyone is feeling satisfied. The King of Cups represents a CALMING + PROTECTIVE energy that when called upon can help one to respond to intense situations with a level-headed compassionate approach. The King of Cups radiates AUTHENTICITY, CONCERN and ALTRUISM, and because of this is able to motivate others through RAW EMOTION. The King of Cups perceives other's motivations + seemingly disconnected events, and is able to bring these ideas together and communicate them as a common goal. Literally, out of all four kings, the King of Cups is who you would want to be president bc of his compassionate nature.
The down side to the King of Cups (and perhaps why some may be weary of Sanders) is that this figure can get so wrapped up in emotions + others, he may miss out on the complexities of the three other suits (wands-action, pentacles-money, + swords-strategy). We see in this spread Clinton as Swords lending her to strategy, logic, + reason; and Trump as action + assertion. When the King of Cups believes in something, he can become too involved in the emotional side + place too much trust in the situation. If he isn't careful, he could overextend his optimism, sometimes pushing others further than they're ready or willing to go. But the HOPE he inspires through these qualities is exactly the sort of power needed to turn THE STAR card + 10 OF CUPS upright.
What is the deepest truth within me? King of Cups.
Our strongest qualities have a tendency to swing back and forth like a pendulum. When someone is excessively gossiping, they've been gifted with social awareness and communication. If the gossiping is nurtured, it can be transformed into empathy, healership, and group leadership. When someone is excessively cynical, they've been gifted with analytical thinking. Or how about when someone constantly lies, and is good at it? They've been gifted with communication, creativity, and an understanding of truth. All of the COURT CARDS in the tarot display STRONG QUALITIES which can swing between light and dark.
Seeing the King of Cups for "the deepest truth within me" is a great opportunity to reflect on how my strongest qualities swing back and forth between my higher and lower self. The King of Cups on a good day is generous and compassionate. He's emotionally balanced and builds sturdy relationship through temperance (which is my lesson for December, the last card I pulled in the #bwtarotchallenge). On the other end of the spectrum, because the King of Cups is a master of his emotions, he is able to manipulate those around him. He knows how to withdraw and give the silent treatment or play a mean game of emotional blackmail to get what he wants. Uhh... 🙊
Once we can acknowledge both LIGHT and DARK qualities within, we begin to understand our STRENGTHS. It's important to be COMPASSIONATE with ourselves and others when we are faced with a situation that triggers our dark-sides. Our most violent of emotions and qualities are simply part of a continuum in line with our greatest strengths. When we feel ourselves swinging into our lower self it's helpful to remember what our gifts are so we can realign ourselves on a higher path.
Day 10: The King of Cups reversed is "losing it" like Cate Blanchett in the final scene of "Blue Jasmine." When someone very sensitive isn't grounded in their truth they may let intense emotions like anger control their life. They also depend too much on the opinions of others and often use their empathy and social awareness to either gossip or view themselves through others eyes.
So....this card tells me that on this very watery Scorpio new moon I shall reconnect with my purpose and truth to release any doubt I may have. By doing so, I simultaneously release the opinions of others, the desire to gossip, and any lingering anger. 💦😡💦 And hopefully through this turn the card upright.
The King of Cups upright is in control of his emotions. Not in a stifling way, but in a way of being so grounded in his personal truth that deep empathy and compassion emerge. Something to aim for. 🙌 ***Side note=Cool to see the King of Cups here for the Scorpio New Moon because he actually represents Scorpio.
