FOUR OF SWORDS
For those in your life who don't see the world eye-to-eye with you, give it a rest already. Sometimes the greatest way to show compassion is by knowing when not to partake or get involved. Allow yourself the sacred space you need so you don't say anything dumb or that you will regret. If this means not going home for the holidays, not responding to an email, or simply walking away, know it doesn't make you a bad person. Some things just need time. When we learn to rest easy, and listen to our own intuition about our own wants and needs, we build up the energy and perspective to then cultivate compassion and patience with others. Be easy.
When the 4 OF SWORDS shows up upright it suggests "losing the battle, but regaining strength" so you WIN the war. Headlines today of The New York Times reads, "New Setback for Clinton in Key Primary." The energy of this card is so in line with Clinton, as the Wisconsin defeat barely sets back her COMFORTABLE lead.
HOWEVER, the card appears REVERSED, which I tell my clients + students that this shifts the RESTING nature of the 4 of Swords to EXTREME FOMO. Perhaps Clinton is REFUSING to take a much needed REST, or extending her reach out too far. It seems she is being very STRATEGIC with her energy, spending most of her time in New York State, holding fundraisers nightly, which participants who attend are asked more than $2,000 a head upon entry (quite a contrast to the $27 average per donator from Senator Sander's supporters). But instead of getting so caught up in the ANALYTICS + STRATEGY, this card indicates if Clinton isn't careful, she may be on the verge of DEPLETING her energy all together. She may be heavily influenced by those around her, or distracted by the BIRDIE SANDERS BUZZ. This card is indicating to let the OUTSIDE influences SETTLE. If she completely TRUSTS in what it she has to offer (the STRATEGY, INTELLECT, + EXPERIENCE of the SWORD suit), she can store up her STRENGTH for major debates, bringing the 4 of Swords upright, so she can pull out ahead as the DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE.
Day 15: Justice asks, "Where in my life can I give myself the gift of balance?" The 4 of Swords Reversed.
When the 4 of Swords shows up reversed, it indicates a resistance to slow down. This card shows a soldier resting up before he takes off for battle. Notice his hands upright in a prayer position over his solar plexus (center of fire, willpower, and achievement). This indicates he isn't actually sleeping, but in a meditative posture, restoring energy. I've been on the go the last couple of weeks and seeing this card is a great reminder to chill the fuck out! My eyes are literally closing as I type this. I'm signing out. Night.
How do I best prepare for winter? 4 of Swords.
Sometimes you have to go within, to give without. Retreat is very important to regain strength and perspective before starting new projects. A nice reminder from the tarot tonight.
I pulled this card while celebrating Thanksgiving with @heavens_hexagram's family. Pictured above is his grandfather Seymour, who was telling me all about rest. He's 93 years old and is starting to lose his eye sight. He advised me in his Brooklyn accent, "listen to your body. When you need sleep, go to sleep. When you put something in your body that doesn't agree, listen. I NEVER drink coke. It's horrible. There's coke in coke. Eat a Mediterranean diet: meat...not a lot of it, garlic, onions, olive oil. And BLUEBERRIES. Lots of BLUEBERRIES. When you're my age, you'll be glad you did." Listen to your elders.
